On-metal tags
Plastic-housed on-metal tags
Short answer
1.0Construction
How this family is built
These models put the tag in a plastic body, which gives it more height and mass than a board tag and room for screws or rivets. Where the records name a material, it is ABS, an unnamed plastic, or polycarbonate with ceramic for the plate. They name no resin grade and say nothing about sealing, potting or the inner layers, so this page makes no claim about them.
The housing is also why the read distances stated here are the longest in the catalog: a larger body has more room for an antenna. That is general background, not a promise for any one model. Distances are stated on metal by the supplier and are worth confirming on your own part.
2.0Choosing
Choose this family, or look elsewhere
Choose this family for
- Metal parts where a longer read is needed. On one footing (EIRP 4 W, on metal) the supplier states up to 12 m for the 155 x 30 mm model and up to 9 m for the 88 x 56.5 mm plate, both supplier-stated.
- Fixing beyond tape. Six of the seven models list screw, rivet and glue as well as tape.
- Warmer surroundings. The 37 x 14 mm model states an operating maximum of 115 C and the 46 x 31 mm model 95 C, both supplier-stated. The records do not name the plastic, so this page makes no claim about the resin.
Look elsewhere when
- Height is 4 to 11 mm, against 3 to 3.4 mm for FR4 tags. If the space is tight, look at the FR4, flexible PET or printable families.
- No model states an IP rating, and the records say nothing about sealing or potting, so no claim is made about water, dust or chemicals.
- Bodies are heavier than the other on-metal families, from 3 g to 28 g, which matters for parts that move or vibrate.
- Distances are stated on metal only.
Selection rules
- For the longest stated read distance start with 155 x 30 mm, then the 88 x 56.5 mm plate, then 85 x 20 mm and 46 x 31 mm.
- For service above 85 C the only models that state an operating maximum above it are 37 x 14 mm and 46 x 31 mm. Ask the team what the plastic is before you rely on it.
- For a compact body choose 35 x 12 mm, which is 5.1 mm high and states 4 m.
- The 88 x 56.5 mm plate is tape mounted only. It is filed under this family as a plate and is not a screw-fixed housing.

How to read the distances in this table
Every distance is the supplier's upper figure, stated under the conditions in the last column, and TagBrio has not tested it. All the models state their leading distance on the same footing, so the figures may be compared with each other. A read on your own part with your own reader is the only reliable check.

5.0Questions
Questions about this family
Answers quoted from the records
How big are plastic-housed on-metal tags?
The 7 models range from 35 x 12 mm (MHP-35x12-TF) to 88 x 56.5 mm (MHP-88x57-T) in footprint, and from 4 mm to 11 mm in height. The model page of each gives its full size.
How far can plastic-housed on-metal tags be read?
7 of the 7 models state a distance under one footing (EIRP 4 W, on metal), from 3 m to 12 m. All figures are supplier-stated and TagBrio has not tested them. A read on your own surface with your own reader is the only reliable check, and the request page offers a test kit.
How are plastic-housed on-metal tags attached?
Across the family the records list adhesive tape, screw, rivet and glue. The methods differ by model, so check the mounting row of the model you choose.
What temperatures do plastic-housed on-metal tags state?
The supplier states operating ranges within -40 to +115 °C and storage ranges within -45 to +200 °C across the models; individual models differ. Both are supplier-stated, and a storage range is not an operating range.
Which plastic-housed model states the highest operating temperature?
MHP-37x14-TF states an operating maximum of 115 °C (supplier-stated). The records do not name the plastic, so this page makes no claim about the resin.
